Los manuscritos podrán enviarse tanto para su inclusión en la parte principal de la revista -cuando estuvieren dedicados expresamente a aspectos de la filosofía de Nietzsche- o en la sección posnietzscheanos. También podrán enviarse reseñas o estudios críticos de publicaciones recientes relacionadas con la filosofía nietzscheana y post-nietzscheana. Todos los originales deberán ajustarse a las normas editoriales de la revista y deberán enviarse por correo electrónico a instantesyazares@yahoo.com.ar

A Conference with Professor Richard Schacht

The conference, which is to take place at Cardiff University September 20-21 2010, is in celebration of the outstanding work of eminent Nietzsche scholar Professor Richard Schacht.  The topic of “Nietzsche and Naturalism” has been a key feature of Richard Schacht’s work for many years and has now become a central concern for anyone with a serious interest in Nietzsche interpretation.  Professor Schacht would like the conference to serve as a forum for critically addressing various naturalistic interpretations of Nietzsche’s thought.

Papers should be of approximately 25 minutes duration.  The deadline for the first round of the call for papers is 25 June 2010.  Please submit a title and brief abstract of no more than 300 words by email to Peter R. Unexpected Productions presents the world premiere of “Nietzsche! The Musical.” Over a century after Friedrich Nietzsche’s death, his influence still pervades intellectual and popular culture, from Freud and Foucault to Kanye West and Little Miss Sunshine. But many questions still remain: Was Nietzsche’s mustache made from shredded Bibles? Did he secretly invent kickball? And what about the alleged catfish-baiting rings he ran in his basement?

“The humor in this show isn’t capricious,” says playwright Jeremy Richards. “It’s a reflection of the terrifying incongruity between Nietzsche’s ideas and his legacy. What we cannot fathom is so overwhelming, it’s absurd. There’s still darkness here, but with  Nietzsche’s command to ‘kill the spirit of gravity’ and to accompany every truth with laughter, the only response we have is release.”

Richards, who has written the book and lyrics for his Master’s thesis in Cultural Studies, promises the show will reward fans of Nietzsche’s work, but it remains accessible to a wide audience. Richards has teamed up with composer Rob Scherzer and director Kate Jaeger to offer a surreal and satirical take on Nietzsche’s life, work, and contemporary resonance.

“Nietzsche! The Musical” opens Friday, May 14th and runs through June 12th at Seattle’s Market Theatre.

ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM:

Jeremy Richards (book and lyrics) is a writer, actor, and an on-air producer for Seattle NPR station KUOW. His work has appeared widely, including McSweeney’s, The Spoken Word Revolution Redux, The Poetry Foundation,  The Morning News, RATTLE, and on National Public Radio’s Morning Edition and All Things Considered. In tours and performances, Richards was a two-time member of Seattle’s National Poetry Slam team, a three-time winner of the Bumbershoot Poetry Slam, and was invited to perform on HBO’s Def Poetry. Richards studied philosophy and theology at Gonzaga University. He graduates this June with an MA in Cultural Studies from The University of Washington.

Rob Scherzer (music) grew up in Montville, NJ, and 2x majored in Theatre and Psychology at Drew University. His path led him from Vienna, from an Opera intensive to working for the St. Augustinerkirche Chor, to NYC working for the Broadway company of Hairspray to Broadway Cares: Equity Fights AIDS, to many countries in Asia, working with the 10th Anniversary World Tour of Rent as Company/Tour Manager. Now Rob resides in Seattle, sings at Benaroya Hall with the Seattle Symphony Chorale, is the musical director for Wing-It Productions.  Rob has worked as a composer, singer, actor, voice teacher, improvised musician, & musical director in both Seattle & NYC.

Submissions are still being accepted for a workshop panel on the theme of Nietzsche, science, and imagination as part of the 12th Conference of the International Society for the Study of European Ideas (ISSEI) in Ankara Turkey, Aug. 2-6, 2010. The topic of the conference is Thought in Science and Fiction.

Scientific knowledge continues to make inroads into areas of human culture once deemed the preserve of the humanistic disciplines. At the same time, scientists are increasingly aware of the ‘feedback loop’ between culture, body, and natural environment, such that scientific reductionism has become increasingly untenable. More than ever, the openness and plasticity of individual and cultural imagination is recognized as complementary to, rather than a refutation of, the latest developments in physics, biology, and medicine. In light of science’s increasing application to the disciplines of philosophy, cultural studies, religious studies, psychology, and anthropology, this workshop will explore the relation between (and potential synthesis of) the scientific and imaginative dimensions of Nietzsche’s thought.

The workshop welcomes papers that explore the relevance of Nietzsche or Nietzschean approaches to problems in social, political, and cultural life that raise issues of science and imagination. Papers that focus on Nietzsche’s work, as well as papers that apply a broadly Nietzschean approach to contemporary social and cultural issues, are welcome.
