Serbs and volleys

The Australian Open was an extraordinary success for Serbian tennis, in both the men’s and women’s competitions. I can’t help but think that the wrong Serb won, though. Janko Tipsarevic, who so nearly knocked out Roger Federer in the third round, counts Dostoevsky, Goethe and Nietzsche among his favourite authors.

The Union of German Academies of Sciences (Union der deutschen Akademien der Wissenschaften) has awarded a grant of €3 million for a proposed six-volume commentary on Nietzsche’s published works. The fifteen-year project, which aims to document the historical, philosophical and literary context of Nietzsche’s thought, will be led by Jochen Schmidt at the University of Freiburg. More here.
